Another NHL superstar, and Mario Lemieux's old line mate, who wore a JOFA helmet is Jaromir Jagr. He wore the JOFA 390 helmet, the common model that was sold readily to the mainstream crowd. Instead of having a visor like Selanne's with mounting points on the sides only, Jagr wore an Itech 3 point visor, where additional security was added at the forehead mounting points for a cage. I'm not sure why Jagr preferred the JOFA 390, even though he most likely could have worn a JOFA 366, but he definitely influenced this helmet's popularity throughout the 1990's.
Later in his career, he began to wear the JOFA 690 helmet. I'm guessing he started wearing this helmet around the time it was first produced, as one of JOFA's spokespersons to increase sales.
Since Jagr's retirement from the NHL, he has been wearing a "Gretzky" JOFA 235, with an Oakley Pro Modified visor. I suppose he doesn't feel at all intimidated in the Czech leagues, because this helmet is definitely a safety downgrade.
Looks super comfortable; the JOFA 235 is an ultra light helmet to begin with, designed to minimize the sensation of actually wearing a helmet. I'm sure the visor weighs it down a little bit, it seems Jagr is practically using the helmet as a device to hold eye protection in place. Interesting look, wonder if he got this idea from Jari Kurri (previous post)?
